San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area opens February 7, 2025.

Boat launches will remain closed until futher notice.

EBMUD has proactively closed boat launches to prevent an invasion of the non-native Golden Mussel.

In response to the recent discovery of Golden Mussels within the Delta, EBMUD has suspended boat launch activities and is developing a comprehensive plan to protect its fisheries, recreational facilities, and power & water supply infrastructure. The plan will include:

  • Measures to reduce risks associated with boats;
  • Increased water sampling within the reservoirs;
  • Other operational changes to minimize the risk of a mussel infestation.

San Pablo Reservoir is an East Bay gem, offering opportunities to get on the water or view the lake from hiking trails and picnic spots.

Things to Do

Picnicking

Picnicking and BBQs allowed at single tables on a first-come, first-served basis. We are taking reservations for the picnic gazebos at the Visitors Center only; no phone reservations allowed at this time. We offer four large group sites – three of them can accommodate up to 100 people. Please call the recreation area at (510) 223-1661 for more information on the Lakeview, Eagles Nest, Oaks or Pines picnic sites. 

Fishing

San Pablo Reservoir is stocked regularly with trout and catfish, and is known as one of the finest fisheries in the East Bay. Pick up a fishing license, bait and tackle at the visitor center, and talk with knowledgeable staff who can give you tips on the best fishing spots. California fishing license and EBMUD fishing permit required.

Fishing Derby

The fishing derby will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Please call the recreation area at (510) 223-1661 for more information.

Boat Rentals

Patio boats, motor boats, and row boats are available for rent daily (no kayaks). The aluminum fishing boats come equipped with a four stroke motor, which is ideal for fishing and cruising the waters of the reservoir. All rental boats must be returned and checked in 1 hour prior to park closure. Visit Rocky Mountain Recreation or call 510-223-1661 for prices and additional information.

Kayaking/Canoeing

You’ll find some of the best flat-water kayaking and canoeing in the East Bay at San Pablo, but bring your own since no rentals are available at this time. Paddle along 14 miles of shoreline and discover sandy beaches, great fishing, and interesting wildlife.

Hiking

Wildlife

See flocks of white pelicans, geese, ducks, and shorebirds, and along the trails, upland species such as wild turkey, quail and dove, plus predators such as eagles, osprey, hawks, and owls. Be on the lookout for deer, otters, coyote, and bobcats.

Bring your dogs

Dogs are welcome at San Pablo Recreation Area in the west side parking lots and paved roads. Dogs are not allowed in any boat or in the reservoir. Please keep dogs on a leash (6 foot maximum), and no more than three dogs per person.

No swimming or paddleboarding

This is a drinking water reservoir; swimming or body contact is not allowed.
