Serge Terentieff
Director of Engineering and Construction
Serge Terentieff began his EBMUD career as an Assistant Engineer more than two decades ago. His early work ignited a passion for sustainable water management that continues to motivate him today as the agency's Director of Engineering and Construction.
Serge grew up in Switzerland, where pristine water quality was a given. He came to the Bay Area for his education and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's in geotechnical engineering, both from the University of California, Berkeley. After 10 years as an engineering consultant, Serge joined EBMUD. He enjoys the complex and dynamic nature of his work with one of California's largest water utilities and notes that the staff's range of talents and depth of knowledge make EBMUD an exciting place to build a career.
Serge is deeply committed to equity and focuses on providing reliable service across communities regardless of socioeconomic status. He believes a diverse workforce stimulates creative solutions to address today's challenges and tomorrow’s demands. His collaborative leadership style centers on listening to a range of perspectives and empowering others to grow within the organization.
"Mentorship is important," he says, "and I am proud of my role in creating opportunities that challenge, increase skill levels, and create new opportunities for my staff," all while achieving EBMUD's goal of tripling its pipeline replacement rate and upgrading its water treatment plants.
