EBMUD is replacing 820 feet of aging pipelines to ensure customers continue to have reliable water supplies in the areas of Camden Avenue, Birdsall Avenue and Madera Avenue in the Oakland. The original pipes were installed in 1934 and are at the end of their service life. The project is part of the District’s larger plan to replace at least 10 miles of existing pipeline each year.
What to expect:
- Pipeline crews will normally excavate one block at a time. After the new pipe is installed, the crew will connect water service lines and fire hydrants.
- Expect traffic delays of up to 10 minutes. Schedules are subject to change.
- Equipment and materials will be located in your neighborhood.
Planned water outages will occur for a limited time during this construction.
- EBMUD will knock on your door and/or place a door hanger at least 24 hours before the water outage. Emergency outages may occur without notice.
- If you have medical needs or require continuous water service, please notify us and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
- Concentrated chlorination and flushing of new water lines are part of drinking water functional requirements specified in California Waterworks Standards. These standards keep your water safe. EBMUD values conservation and water reuse – especially in times of drought, and works to reuse flushed water when possible.
- Temporary paving and plates will be used to keep the road passable until final paving is completed, about 30 days after the pipe replacement is done.
