EBMUD & DSRSD Emergency Intertie Test 2023

From June 28 to June 30, EBMUD successfully received approximately 1.8 million gallons from DSRSD, completing the test that started in the Fall of 2023. This crucial test is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure the reliability of our water systems. Simulating an emergency scenario fine-tunes our readiness and coordination, ensuring that our interties function seamlessly during actual emergencies, and reinforces our commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.

EBMUD DSRSD IntertieProject description

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) and the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) are working together to enhance our water systems and emergency response capabilities.

We will simulate an emergency scenario, testing our water transfer capabilities through specific connections between our systems. This helps us prepare for real emergencies and ensures that everything runs smoothly when needed.

In times of significant emergencies, we prioritize collaboration with fellow municipal agencies to ensure that we continue providing access to safe and clean drinking water. To fortify this commitment, we've strategically established three interties connecting EBMUD and DSRSD. These interties serve as crucial points of system interconnection, enabling the temporary exchange and delivery of water between both districts. You can find two of these interties along the southern border of the EBMUD service area in San Ramon, with the third intertie located in San Ramon's Dougherty Valley. These connections are instrumental in safeguarding your access to high-quality water during times of need.

EBMUD and DSRSD are collaboratively conducting a vital intertie test, involving the controlled transfer of water between our two distinct water systems. This comprehensive emergency simulation not only fine-tunes our readiness but also enhances our response capabilities for potential future crises. It ensures the seamless operation of these temporary facilities while refining our coordination and processes. We completed the first phase (water delivery from EBMUD to DSRSD) of this essential test in mid-November 2023 and will test the second phase (water delivery from DSRSD to EBMUD) in late-June 2024. Your safety and the reliability of your water supply remain our top priorities.

Schedule

The first test phase was completed in mid-November 2023.  The second test phase is expected to be complete in late-June 2024.

What to Expect

During the testing hours, you might notice minor, temporary changes in water quality and pressure.

We appreciate your patience and support as we strive to improve the reliability and resilience of our water systems.
