What is the Commercial Irrigation Submeter Rebate?
The Irrigation Submeter Rebate provides a rebate to commercial, municipal, and multi-family (5+ units) customers for the installation of an irrigation submeter.
What is an irrigation submeter?
Often, the main water meter can include both indoor and outdoor consumption making it difficult to manage outdoor water use and identify leaks. An irrigation submeter is a separate water meter that can monitor and measure water used for landscape purposes, such as that from irrigation, pools, and/or fountains.
How much is our rebate?
EBMUD will reimburse up to 50% of the cost of the irrigation submeter. The maximum rebate is $200 per irrigation submeter.
EBMUD will not reimburse costs for the following:
- Taxes, shipping, labor, service fees
- Maintenance or replacement of existing irrigation submeter(s)
- Repairs in new construction or to meet Model Water Efficiency Landscape Ordinance (MWELO)
What are the eligibility requirements?
Eligible equipment must posess the following features:
- Ability to monior and separately measure total water flow used for landscape purposes.
- Leak detection feature.
How to apply
Step 1. Review the eligibility requirements. Rebates less than $200 or less may install equipment and request rebate within 90 days of purchase. Customers will still need to submit a completed application, in addition to before/after photos of installed equipment and receipt(s) showing purchase date.
Step 2. For rebates over $200, fill out the Commercial Irrigation Submeter Rebate Application and submit to EBMUD, along with:
- Photo of existing area for proposed submeter installation.
Complete installation within 90 days of receiving approval. Send to EBMUD:
- Photo of installed equipment.
- Copy of receipt of contractor's invoice showing material price, exclusive of labor, taxes, and other fees.
Step 3. The final rebate may not exceed 50% of the cost, not to exceed $200 per irrigation submeter. Rebates are issued as checks payable to the account holder and mailed to the billing address on file within two months of rebate approval. To request an alternate payee, submit a Payee Change Request Form for EBMUD approval.
Note: EBMUD may verify with an in-person site visit.
